Hi!  Since there is such a plethora of inspiration in the archives that whenever someone new stumbles upon justBeConnected (or someone visits after a long absence) I get such awesome feedback. So Thank you! You Rock!

I love getting your emails!

and Thanks for your continued support despite the fact that posting has been a bit sporadic lately.

Here are some great links I want to share:

My friend and co-active coach Jamie Ridler introduced Starshyne Tarot recently. I was fortunate enough to have my tarot cards read in person by Jamie. An enlightening experience! You should give it a try!

I bought this awesome book by Artist and Creative Blogger Andrea Edwards. Her book is full of original poems and paintings that really resonate with me.The quality of the book blew me away. You all have got to check out Blurb where she published her book.

If you have anything you want to share please email me!

I have had the BEST time sharing with other Creative Bloggers through the Random Re-Gift Swap. I will definitely be hosting a Summer Random Re-Gift Swap. Check back for details coming soon!

Have a great week!

XO, Melba

Don't you just LOVE justBeConnected's new  banner by made by Hanna!?!

I DO!

I was very excited when the VERY talented author and artist Hanna Anderson emailed me her creation after I wrote about wanting a new banner for justBeConnected.

Thank you Hanna!

Have you seen this article on Etsy? I posted about it on my blog the other day. I am kind of surprised more Etsians have not gotten behind this project started by the Crafty Chica.

All you have to do is pledge that you you will donate the proceeds from the sale of your designated item to idol gives back ~ all the money you donate will go to charity.

Here is my contribution

You have a voice we want to hear at justBeConnected; Please Share Yourself!

Help & Thank you ~

Sometimes when I am feeling like I need to stream line my online activities, I think of taking a break from justBeConnected, But ~

each week I get so inspired from the hostesses, your comments, and emails~

How could I possibly stop this!?!

Thank you for your continued inspiration & support!!!

I changed the banner this week because sometimes during the week a blogger new to justBeConnected will think that I am posting instead of the guest hostess. So I want to include the gist of the blog in the banner.

But I am not loving the one I made.

Want to make a banner for justBeConnected?

I would be so grateful if you did!

email me your creation as a jpeg. (ofcourse credit for the banner will be given to you on the blog)

The banner should be about W 850 pixels x  L 200 pixels.

The banner should include the same information that is there now, but it does not have to be word for word.

The Hostess Schedule is filled for the next 6 weeks ~ If you interested in Being a Hostess please email me.

Thank you!

Have a great weekend!

XO, Melba

P.S.  ~ justBeConnected really is a community, collaborative blog ~ I am VERY open to any suggestions!

Linky Love: Fiber arts and other stuff

100_9150_4  As a community of creative souls, I want to recognize the variety of mediums that are represented by the artists that hang out here at JustBeConnected.  And since I tend to work mostly as a fiber artist, making crazy quilt garments and accessories, I thought it would be fun to see some of the beautiful work of other fiber artists.  I have found a number of sites where you can take online classes in all kinds of fiber arts. 100_9157 One place that has not only great classes, but also an incredible stock of supplies for every kind of fiber artist, is Joggles.   I took one of their online classes called Encrusted Crazy Quilting, and I couldn't believe how much information I received in just that one class!   And since I can't use anyone else's pictures, I guess I'll just have to share a few of my own with you so you can see some of the fun stuff I've learned from these great sites!Journey_inward_2

If you want to join a community of other independent artists of all varieties, you might want to check out Indepublic.  Now there's a place to get lots of connections with other artists!  I found the people there to be very friendly and welcoming, and it is a great place to get feedback on your work.  Ideas, suggestions, and conversations with other artists who work in the same kind of medium as you.  100_0031

And then, as I've already mentioned, the Artella challenges are really a lot of fun!  Every week, or two now I think, a topic is posted for the challenge.  And you, as the artist, can interpret that theme in any way you want, in any medium that you want.  100_0100This week's theme is "Scribble," so I'm thinking that I might want to give this one a try.  A couple of weeks ago the theme was "Window."  Wish I had been in on that one!  Here are a few things that I entered back around the holidays, and I actually won first place a couple of times!  This collage is a combination of paper, fibers, beads, ribbons and buttons.100_0125  It was created for the weekly challenge entitled, "Maps," and this is a visionary map of my Journey Inward:  Island of Her Soul.  I had great fun using different papers and fibers, and stitching the different ribbons and buttons in place.  The door on the left side actually opens so you can see words written behind the the open door.   And it has a gold rose button for a door handle!   At Thanksgiving time, I made an altered book entitled, "In all things . . . . give thanks," and I filled it with things for which I am thankful. 100_0127 I included my husband, my children, my home, and our mountains.   So, if you are interested in different mediums, including both paper and fiber collage, check out some of these sites and see if there isn't a class out there that will be just what you are looking for.   Have fun visiting some of these websites, and make new friends - I'll be looking for you!

I don't remember why . . . . . .

Thumbnail_3As I've been thinking about my blogging history, I have to be honest and admit . . . . I don't really remember why I started blogging, or how I first became aware of the blogging community.   But for whatever reason, or how I got connected in the first place, I'm sure glad I did!  It seems that I've been blogging for a year or so now, and it has been amazing to me how many wonderful, gracious, and generous people I have "met" through the connections that are made out here in the blogosphere.   One thing I do remember, is having been involved with several online communities of people with shared interests.  Isn't that the way we all start out?  Through my work as a designer and seamstress, I first connected with design groups for boutique children's clothing.  That is something that I"ve been doing for a very long time    :o)    and suddenly discovered that there is a huge community of other women who love to design and create children's clothing.  I was hooked!Red_thread_2

I was truly amazed at the kindness, the comaraderie, the support, and encouragement that I encountered in those first online communities.  But then, of course, just like in any other human relationships, you always encounter others who don't provide the positive input that most groups need to survive.  Consequently, many of the early online groups that I participated in, no longer exist.  But, the overall experience has been so positive and rewarding, that I continue to be involved in several groups of independent artists, book enthusiasts, designers, moms, and adoptive familes.   And since I found JustBeConnected, I've participated in some of the swaps, I've been a hostess for various theme days, and now I get to be part of this weekly project.

When I first began blogging, I simply shared my daily experiences, family funnies, stories about our adoptions, pictures of my children, our yard, our neighborhood, and occasionally I included pictures of some of my art projects.  Then I hit a period of time where I was really struggling with my health, and all of my creative activity came to a complete stop.  For about 6 or 7 months.  Consequently, I lost most of the initial connections I had made through my blog, because what fun is it to keep visiting a blog that isn't being updated!  I was sad, but determined to get re-connected as soon as possible.  So, when I started having more energy and actually felt like chatting, I jumped right back out here and started posting on my own blog, commenting on lots of other blogs, and I even got involved with the weekly art challenges on the Artella website.  The positive responses I received really encouraged me to keep going!

100_2009 I came back to JustBeConnected, and Melba graciously invited me to participate again, and that really helped me to find other independent artists.  Through that connection, I discovered Leah at creativeeveryday, and what an inspiration that was for me!  Recently, I've been so focused on my creative ventures that I have been limited on the time I spend chatting with my blogging buddies, but I have found such a gift in this community.  If you are at a place in your life where you need some encouragement and support, please get involved by reaching out to some of us, and you'll find not only that encouragement that you need, but so much inspiration for your creativity.

I currently have two blogs, mamas*little*treasures and Waiting*for*Grace.  mamas*little*treasures is a (almost!) daily documentation of my design work.  I write eBook patterns for many of my designs, and I have an Etsy Shop where I sell my creations.  I also have my own website.  My other blog, Waiting*for*Grace is devoted to providing information and resources for current or potential adoptive families.  I am also working on a website to accompany that blog.  I am including adoption stories, book reviews, links to agencies and other resource websites, current news on international adoption, adoption funding information, and any other resource information that I can find.

Blogging has given me a great sense of accomplishment as I provide information and encouragement to other people for whatever their goals might be.  And I have been honored to be included in this community of wonderful people, whom I would never have had the opportunity to meet if it wasn't for blogging!  Happy blogging . . . . and if you don't have your own blog yet, give a shout out and I'll be happy to help you with that!    Nina

Connecting our Community

Hi~ I hope this Sunday morning finds you all well!

So last week I messed up a bit and we didn't have a hostess for a week.

But it worked out anyway since it gave an opportunity for my post last week about The Random Re-Gift Swap to remain the focus. &  we now have a great group of woman signed up! :) It is not to late! You can still sign up until Friday February 22nd. Next Sunday I will announce the swap partners.

I also got the Hostess Schedule back on track. We are all set until May. Please email me if you would like to Be a Hostess. We would LOVE for you to share your voice!

I decided to read the new Oprah book club selection A New Earth. I have never read along with one of her suggestions, but when I saw that she was giving an OnLine class I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for me to go deeper into a book.

Thinking back on how enriching and fun it was to blog The Artist Way, True Balance, and Finding Water with my fellow Creative Bloggers I decided to create a blog to encourage others to share this journey with me~

A New Earth

I just created the blog so I am still working on adding to it. Let me know if you will be reading along with me.

This weekend at justBeBrave we are sharing tips for Selling OnLine. We would Love to hear any tips you might have. justBeBrave features a different indie artist everyday Monday - Friday. If you would like to be featured Please see all the details here

If you have anything you want to share with your fellow Creative Bloggers please leave a comment here or email me and I will spread the word in a future Sunday; Connecting our Community post.
